You’re Never Too Old for a Magic Carpet Ride!
Childrens relaxation, adult power nap.
“Let’s go on a magic carpet ride!”

I love it when I find the perfect kids audio relaxation to recommend to parents, friends and teachers and also enjoy doing myself.

In fact, LOVE doing myself.

What a great relaxation track!

Discovering Mira Binzen’s “Magic Carpet Ride” from the Chill Children Cd by Global Kids Yoga has been a total joy. Just a short listen at 12 minutes and 17 seconds long, Mira packs the punch that transports body and soul into that most welcome of worlds where you find rest and renewal.

Mira’s voice is perfect: smiling and mellow, engaging and quietly enthralling. The trill of a glorious flute punctuates the soundtrack and fills the silences.

Big Kids

A confession: I’ve yet to use the track personally with children! However, the adults to whom I’ve introduced it, at various workshops and even at my evening yoga class, are thrilled with the experience..

Isn’t it interesting that practices designed specifically for children will actually hit the adult target? I came across this situation when Susan Kaiser Greenland, widely accepted as the guru of mindfulness for children, staged an online childrens’ meditation summit some years back.

The feedback from many grown children (ie, adults) was how they loved doing the meditations themselves. In fact many people enjoyed doing the kids versions more.

Flown away- to where?

Often when I practice the Magic Carpet track at home, I reach the end of the 12 minutes without having heard a word beyond the initial few lines.

Now that is the mark of a well-designed relaxation.

How about you? Do you find you don’t actually go to sleep, but instead drift into the inbetween space between sleeping and waking? Not quite asleep, not quite awake.?

This is the place of yoga nidra, where the subconscious comes to the fore and takes over. Under the weight of the subconscious, the rational thinking mind ‘drops’ and gets an overhaul. It receives a thorough dust down, tune up and smooth out.

The Brain Refreshed

The result it an enlivened, refreshed, revitalized state of being. The gift of the power nap. If you were feeling tired before, tiredness is now gone.

I think it must have something to do with the ability of the deep relaxation practice to restore the glucose content in the brain.

No wonder ‘nap pods’ are provided for staff at Google headquarters and other innovative businesses around the world!

(Disclaimer- the drifting into the inbetween state won’t happen every time , but should do so more often than not.)

A Sneak Preview

Drift joyfully on your magic carpet through the clouds, above a playground (hearing children laughing and playing below), over a meadow (smell the wild flowers on the breeze), over a river valley (hear the rushing river) and up, up over a tall pine forest, on your way to spend some quiet time at a special place of our choice where you will be encouraged to use your senses to create your experience as a felt-sense of wellbeing in the body.

Wait, there’s More

Some other gems on the Chill Children seven-track Cd are: A Visit With the Worry Witch (7:07, leave all your worries and concerns with the Worry Witch who will stitch them into her beautiful quilt, leaving you free to explore a very special place) and  Shining Star (6:27, feel a point of light touch, warm and relax each part of your body).

Global family yoga offers face-to-face and online trainings, workshops, and classes with family as the central focus.
