The tedious bits, the annoying bits. Too much noise. Too little sleep. Deadlines. Traffic. Social media. Two sad drops left in the milk carton when you finally get to the fridge.
Too little just-me time (aka, rebuild time). Too little just-BE time (ahhhh ..). |
Kinda in a trance. Not actually there. Here.
Where, then? Not-here, lost! Let's flick the switch and look out for the small, good moments life delivers on a regular basis. Micro moments packed with goodness. Usually overlooked. Coz we're running on autopilot. Or have rushed on to the Next Thing. |
|
I hear you. We’re watching a horrific impact on an entire
society and feel the pain of being unable to help. With recurring media images and worsening news daily, there’s no respite from the intensity. Our response risks turning into ‘empathic distress’, where our own distress becomes an additional load, on top of the terrible external situation. |
It affects our physical and mental health and our relationships.
Let’s not allow the aggressors to have that win too! The standard mindfulness solutions suggest breathing and meditation … hmm, maybe. But how do we switch off from the conflict? And do we want to? |
Internal storiesIt brings us into the present,
which can't co-exist with the stories in our head. |
An AntidotePrioritising small, uplifting, immediate experiences is
THE IDEAL ANTIDOTE to being swamped by bad feelings. |
Sane, effectiveBad feeling don't help.
They hinder; they prevent our clear, sane effective response. |
Extras this round:
~ Savouring and sharing. How to share the spoils. The benefits of not squandering the good vibes solely for yourself. ~ It’s important to know how to savour without clinging and grasping to the good things. ~ And in these challenging times it’s important understand empathic distress and how savour-and-share can help. |

HERE’S THE THING As humans, we're stuck with a negativity bias, and can’t help but:
We feel the sting of a rebuke more powerfully than the uplift of praise. Respond more strongly to negative events than to equally positive ones. It's not your fault! |
“Taking in the good is not about putting a happy shiny face on everything, nor is it about turning away from the hard things in life. It's about nourishing well-being, contentment, and peace inside that are refuges you can always come from and return to.” ― Rick Hanson, Buddha's Brain: The Practical Neuroscience of Happiness, Love, and Wisdom |
